North Carolina Small Claims
Many civil matters in North Carolina are well-suited for small claims court. North Carolina small claims courts hear matters involving claims for less than $5000 in front of a magistrate judge. Whether you are bringing a small claims action as a plaintiff or are facing a small claims matter as a defendant, you are entitled to legal counsel and representation.
Nevertheless, we recognize that it is often not cost-effective to retain trial counsel for small claims matters. Instead, we suggest small claims parties participate in our Small Claims Clinic, which is a detailed consultation that is in essence a legal boot camp for small claims. While we cannot cram 3 years of law school into a two hour consultation, we can give you guidance in filing a claim, presentation of evidence, witness examination, testimony and argument in small claims court, in addition to evaluating your claim or defenses under the law.
